About Independence of Transylvania Association
The Independence of Transylvania Association is a non-governmental organization. We are dedicated to supporting and promoting the independence of Transylvania. All in accordance with the principles of international law and the right to self-determination of peoples. We want to build a future in which Transylvania is recognized as a sovereign, free and democratic region, based on a unique historical and cultural heritage.
Our work focuses on these main pillars:
1. To promote the independence of Transylvania as main objective:
The Association seeks to promote the idea of political and administrative independence of Transylvania by legal and peaceful means, based on the principle of the international law of self-determination of peoples.
Creation of a social movement: The Association may initiate a social movement uniting Transylvanian communities around the idea of independence, facilitating dialog with citizens and involving them in decisions concerning the political future of the region.
2. Legal basis for independence and consultation of international law:
The Association could study and invoke the provisions of international law related to self-determination, such as the UN Charter and other international treaties that recognize the right of peoples to decide their own political status.
3. International support for Transylvania’s independence:
International diplomacy and lobbying: the Association may seek support from other countries and international organizations that support the right to self-determination. This could include contacts with states that have gone through similar processes to achieve independence, such as the Baltic States or Kosovo.
Partnerships with other autonomist regions: Collaboration with self-determination movements in other parts of Europe, such as Catalonia or Scotland, can provide support and examples of good practice.
4. Regional consultation and referendum and consultation of the population:
The Association could play a role in organizing public consultations and surveys to assess the real desire of Transylvanian citizens for independence.
Organizing a referendum: Finally, one of the objectives of the association could be to promote a legal and democratic referendum in which the people of Transylvania could express their will for independence.
5. Economic development and viability of an independent Transylvania:
Economic planning: one of the pillars of independence is economic viability. The Association can support studies and economic analysis that demonstrate that Transylvania has the capacity to function as an independent state. The region’s natural resources, geographical position and economy can be arguments in favor of independence.
Attraction of investment: The Association could facilitate the attraction of international investment, which would contribute to the development of a sustainable economy in the perspective of independence.
6. Preservation of multiculturalism and inter-ethnic harmony and protection of ethnic diversity:
One of the distinctive features of Transylvania is its ethnic diversity. The Association must ensure that the independence movement is inclusive and respects the rights of all ethnicities in the region – Romanians, Hungarians, Saxons, Szeklers and others.
Promoting inclusive governance: If Transylvania achieves independence, the Association can support the creation of a model of government that guarantees the rights and representation of all ethnic communities.
7. Maintaining peaceful relations with Romania, Hungary and Europe:
Cooperation with Romania, Hungary and the EU: The Association can advocate that Transylvania’s independence does not have to lead to conflict, but can be achieved through diplomatic and peaceful means, maintaining close relations with Romania, Hungary and the European Union.
8. Continuing economic and cultural cooperation:
Even after achieving independence, Transylvania can continue to cooperate with Romania and with Hungary in economic and cultural areas, ensuring that historical exchanges and ties remain intact.
